Stacey Mastrian, a “manifestly courageous” (Boston Globe) soprano who is “versatile and passionate” (Der Tagesspiegel), has sung at the Konzerthaus (Berlin), the Kennedy Center (DC), Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur (Montréal), Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center (NY), St. Peter’s (Vatican City), Teatro La Fenice (Venice), and in Mexico and over half of the U.S. states. She performs works in over two dozen languages, spanning 800 years from Monteverdi through Verdi to Maderna and beyond—recently Bach’s Cantata 51 and Brahms’ Requiem in Rome, Annelies (Anne Frank’s diary, Seattle), Arnesen’s Magnificat (Seattle), as well as the Philadelphia and NYC premieres of a percussion protest opera written for her with texts by Thoreau. She also performs musical theater standards and experimental performance art in collaboration with dancers and more. Dr. Mastrian has been a Fulbright grantee and Beebe fellow to Italy and awarded prizes from The American Prize (Art Song), Chamber Orchestra of NY (Respighi Prize), International Traxel Society (First Laureate, Young Sponsored Lyric Artist), National Italian American Foundation (Pavarotti Scholarship), Seattle Opera Guild (Development Award), Shoshana Foundation (Richard F. Gold Career Grant), and Vocal Arts DC (Discovery Series Winner). Her CD Sonetti e favole (Sonnets and Fables) on the Milan-based Stradivarius label has been hailed for “penetrating insight, unfailing musicality, and vocal beauty” (Journal of Singing). She also appears on the NAXOS and Neuma labels and has several titles in post-production. In addition to performing, Dr. Mastrian is a voice teacher, functional anatomy facilitator, and diction and presentation coach. She has been on faculty at American University, Gettysburg College, Peabody Conservatory, and the University of Maryland and current teaches privately and as a guest clinician, offering experiences that facilitate self-awareness and felt understanding, enabling reconnection, restored function, and expressive communication.
