Hi, I'm Kris. I have a lot of fun performing on stage. In 2011 I stumbled into a small theatre company's rehearsal with some friends, who were already cast in the show, to offer my carpentry services to the director. While they politely refused my offer, they gave me one in return: an offer to play in the 10 Minute Festival, which was focus of that rehearsal. My friends insisted that I loved to play, knowing of my collage of cartoon impressions and goofy antics, so I accepted.

I would go on to volunteer to play in over 27 productions in the surrounding area, including classic plays, popular musicals and large scale Shakespearean pieces. In that time I was introduced to several very well educated professional performers and directors who taught me to engage in character building techniques like Uda's 9, Stanislavski and animal trait associations. Through Lee Ann Hittenberger's wonderful choreography I ended up learning and performing in over 5 different weapon styles for stage combat, often assuming the role of Fight Captain for those productions.

After nearly a decade of playing with these lovely folks, I took the knowledge and experience they gave me to the next level: formal education. I started simply, gaining my certification in Single Sword Stage Combat, under Master Geoffrey Alm through FreeHold Studios. The next year I attended the University of Washington's School of Drama to focus in Performance, whilst simultaneously performing in MacBeth in the Fall and The Crucible in early Spring. Through UW I began to learn tactical techniques and apply them immediately to monologues and my current productions. Even getting a special opportunity to work a monologue personally with Rainn Wilson(Dwight Schrute, The Office(US)).

However, the school year I started at UW ended up being the year the pandemic broke out, so by March we were all confined to home and ZOOM calls. After two quarters of digital education I couldn't justify paying the cost of university to receive limited online acting classes, and optioned to continue my formal education as needed. Meanwhile I've begun to incorporate what I have learned into my acting and continue to strive to perform in impactful shows. I've since broken into script writing, film acting in both feature length and serial formats, and stage production as a lighting technician.

My current focus is to move to Ashland and perform with the OSF and surrounding companies. Film would also be a lot of fun I feel, but having performed in an adaptation of Crime & Punishment as Raskolnikov, I've gained an understanding for why big actors ask for so much compensation: amongst other factors, a dozen or more takes of an emotionally taxing scene is rough on one's mental health. Despite that, I still love this profession and I can't wait to see what the future brings.
