Melody McClellan has been called “a functioning singer,” “an extremely versatile vocalist,” and “a vocal chameleon.” Equally at home in classical music and musical theater, Melody majored in Vocal Performance at Converse College in her hometown of Spartanburg, SC. During her time there, she performed with Converse Opera Theater as Marcellina in "The Marriage of Figaro," Adele in "Die Fledermaus," and in the title role of Seymour Barab’s comic opera "Little Red Riding Hood." She then traveled to Rome, Italy where she spent a summer rehearsing and performing the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte." Other past roles include Nella in "Gianni Schicchi," Genovieffa in "Suor Angelica," Giulietta in "I Capuleti e i Montecchi," and Gasparina in "La Canterina."
On the musical theater stage, Melody has performed all over the Southeast in roles including Woman 1 in "My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra," Cher and Janis Ian in "Beehive: The 60’s Musical," Irene Molloy in "Hello, Dolly!," ’Piphany in "The Littlest Angel," Mrs. Lovett in "Sweeney Todd," Allison in "First Date," Dyanne in "Million Dollar Quartet," and Maria/Lisa Simpson in "Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play."
Melody has recently relocated to Seattle, Washington with her husband Wes and their absolutely rotten dog George. She also serves as an owner and Musical Director for OBPmusical, creators of the choose-your-own-adventure-style fantasy musical, "Off the Beaten Path." She helps to create and write the world of Arlyrus, has recorded many songs in many styles for their commissions music business, and has played many roles in "Off the Beaten Path" and its spin-offs.
